Catching Up
OK so it’s been so long since I’ve posted on this site on a consistent basis that I feel I need to introduce myself again! My name is Edward K.Karn or EKKarn, or “a sixties man” on Instagram. That Instagram user name may need to be updated to ” a seventies man” as I left my sixties a couple of years ago and on October 1st I will turn 72! However, I still do love those “Sixties” what a wild time they were!
Anyway I am avid reader and over the last 30 plus years I have read an average of 40-60 books a year. Additionally, I have listened to and collected a wide variety of music. Throughout most of those years,I listened to primarily Folk, Americana and Blues. Over the last several years I have added Jazz, New Age and even some Progressive rock to my music library. Finally, over those years, I have worked hard to turn back or at least slow down my biological clock, through both diet and exercise.
I originally named this blog “Karnucopia” because it is like a cornucopia of stuff I like and do! Now though, I’ve decided to call it “Looking Back, Moving Forward“, As such what I plan to do is look back a the books I’ve read (You can check out Ten Authors Who Ignited My Reading here ) and the music I’ve listened to over the years. . And while I have loved many authors and musicians, I still am moving forward looking for new authors and new musicians!
Moving Forward with July and August Proposed Reads
Currently I’m reading Steve Berry’s latest book The Last Kingdom. Through the years I’ve read several of Berry’s books. However, I should have read more of them. Currently, six of them are sitting on my unread bookshelves, Boo Me! Anyway, here are the other six books I have checked out of the library, for my July and August reading!
July and August Proposed Reads from top to bottom:
Independence Square -Martin Cruz Smith
This is book #10 in Martin Cruz Smith’s Arkady Renko series. I read Gorky Park book # 1 in the series in 1982, when it was a current bestseller!
My excuse for not having read another until now is the books have been published 3 to 6 years apart. Long enough for my ADHD brain to forget about them. With that said I am looking forward to readin g this one and maybe others in the series!
The Girl By the Bridge – Arnaldur Indridason (Konrad #2)
The Girl By the Bridge is book# 2 in Arnaldur’s Konrad series. I finished the first book in the series The Darkness Knows in June of this year. It was reallly good so I’m excited about trading this one. I have read all but one book in Indridason’s previous series featuring Detective Erlendur a great series! ( Note to self read Black Skies book #10)
The 9th Man – Steve Berry and Grant Blackwood.
The 9th Man is book #1 in the new Luke Daniels series from Steve Berry with Grant Blackwood. Luke was introduced in The Last Kingdom my current read. I hope that The 9th Man is as good either of the two Tucker Wayne books Blackwood oauthored with another one of my favorite authors James Rollins. I believe it will be! Check out The Kill Switch here
The Dark Hours – Michael Connelly (Harry Bosch #23 Renee Ballard #4)
Ok so there are more Harry Bosch novels on my TBR shelves! I have made very little progress in reading the earlier books and going forward. So I decided to read Desert Star the latest Bosch/Ballard novel and then work my way backwards as I wait for the next new book! The result is I am going to read The Dark Hours! And there is a seance of comfort in knowing it will be great!
The Couples Trip – Ulf Kvensler
The Couples Trip is author Ulf Kvensler’s debut novel. I had to pick up this one since Nordic Noir is one of my passions. I am sure, since Kvensler is a successful screenwriter, creator and show-runner of numerous hit TV series, he will be a terrific novelist! Therefore, I can’t wait to dig into this one.
Finally, the last but not least of my proposed reads is
The Last Word – Taylor Adams
Goodreads – Amazon
The Last Word is Taylor Adams’s fifth book. Of those books I have only read one Hairpin Bridge, which was very good. So like all of the above books I am looking forward to reading this one!
As I’m writing this I’m wondering if I’ve bit off more than I can chew! I think not I just hope that a new book from a favorite author doesn’t drop! Wish me luck with these proposed reads! I’ll let you know how I make out. Now it’s time to get back to The Last Kingdom.
