Today is the birthday of a British music legend Mr. John Mayall turns 79 years old today! I am like many, many people whose music collection he touch so Thanks, John!! From Wikipedia:
John Mayall, OBE (born 29 November 1933) is an English blues singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, whose musical career spans over fifty years. In the 1960s, he was the founder of John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, a band which has included Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Peter Green, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood, Mick Taylor, Don “Sugarcane” Harris, Harvey Mandel, Larry Taylor, Aynsley Dunbar, Hughie Flint, Jon Hiseman, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Andy Fraser, Dave Navarro, Johnny Almond, Walter Trout, Coco Montoya and Buddy Whittington.
While I knew of John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers I didn’t pick up his music until the early college years, after listening to his music via my first college roommate, whose name I don’t even remember, because he wasn’t my roommate all that long! Anyway the first Mayall album that I bought was The Turning Point and collected his music from that album through Movin’ On. Those albums remain some of my favorites, particularly Jazz Blues Fusion and the previously mentioned Movin’ On. While I knew he was still making music through the 80s anf 90s, with the exception of Chicago Line, which is a great album, I didn’t collect any other albums. I reconnected with his work at the time of his 70th Birthday Concert album released in 2003, duh, again, that was a great live album! I also have the followup album Road Dogs. I just downloaded his most recent studio album Tough released in 2009, which I will listen to today in honor of his birthday!!
So if you don’t know John Mayall or his music shame on you! Anyway here’s some morning music from 2010. I only hope I’m still rockin’ at 77 like John!! The information at you tube says that this performance was on July 9, 2010 the 44th anniversary of this Bluesbreakers song!!
