Ok so today was a mixed up day! It started by listening to some more Big Daddy “O” but instead of listening to the album What You Gotta Go Through that I listened to yesterday, I couldn’t resist the title of another of Big Daddy’s albums, which was Deranged Covers. Which ironically is an album of covers but far from being Deranged they are really good! The opening track is a good cover of “Crossroads”. Other tracks include: “Built for Comfort”, “Stormy Weather”, “Autumn Leaves”, and really nice covers of “Just Dropped In”, and “A Song for You”. All of the tracks get a folksy blues treatment from Big Daddy “O” which includes a voice that I really like and some good guitar picking! I think this album and other Big Daddy albums are going to stay around for a while on the player!!
After that I listened to a little bit of Eddie Turner’s Miracles and Demons again it sounds good but didn’t listen enough to really comment. Then I briefly listened to some jazz. I started at the top of the Roots Music Report and listened to a few tracks from The Fred Hersch Trio and then a few from Craig Russo’s Latin Jazz Project both sounded pretty good but the listens again were too brief to really comment!
At lunchtime I got an email that said Stoney Plains Records is now following me on Twitter so I went to their website to check them out and saw that they are Tim Hus’ label along with a whole lot of other artists that reside on my CD shelves and in the players! Artist listed included The Austin Lounge Lizards, Poppa Chubby, Dave Hole, Elvin Bishop, David Wilcox and the guy in the title of this post Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers. Jimmy Thackery is one of those artists that I like but rarely listen to, why I don’t I can’t say but I think the old saw “Too Much Music, Too little Time” may apply. Anyway I love Thackery’s album Trouble Manbut some of the other albums not so much. Today listened to his album Sinner Street and really loved it and now I know I have too much music because according to my emusic downloads history, which I just checked, I’ve already downloaded it and his 2008 release Inside Tracks ! Ok so know I have to find them! Anyway Sinner Street is a really fine album with some strong vocals and of course Jimmy’s great guitar work! So if you like the blues this one comes highly recommended and maybe so does Inside Tracks if I can find it!
Here’s “Bullfrog Blues” from Trouble Man
